 Europe Prize for Theatre

The Europe Prize for Theatre was established by resolution of the Taormina Arte Committee on 5.12.1986 and organised by the Committee with the approval and the patronage of the European Union. It is aimed at promoting the knowledge and diffusion of drama throughout Europe, advancing the development of cultural relationships and consolidating the European conscience. The Union des Théâtres de l’Europe and the Convention Théâtrale Européenne are associate and supporting bodies, while the Association Internationale des Critiques de Théatre, the Instituto Internacional del Teatro del Mediterrano and the Festival d’Avignon are associate bodies.
The Europe Theatre Prize is awarded to individuals or drama institutions that have contributed to the realisation of cultural events which have furthered understanding and insight between peoples.
The jury is made up of representatives of the European theatre, personalities from the world of culture and art, critics and cultural operators, and over the years has guaranteed a balanced presence from the different geographical areas.
By right the jury is composed of the permanent secretary and the representatives of the associate organizations
The Europe Prize for Theatre amounts to 60,000 EUROs.
The Europe Prize for New Drama Realities is awarded alongside the Europe Prize for Theatre. The Europe Prize for New Drama Realities is aimed at encouraging emerging trends and initiatives in European drama.
The Jury is assisted in its selection of the candidates for the Premio Europa New Theatrical Realities award by a Council composed of the boards of the associated organizations, of past winners of the Premio Europa per il Teatro and by former members of the Jury.
The Europe Prize for New Drama Realities amounts to 20,000 EUROs.
The prize awarding ceremony will take place at Taormina.
