SPLIT

Split is a confrontation between East & West, a story of love and revenge. Sol, an icelandic woman, Halil her Turkish husband, and their two daughters live in Reykjavik. After a violent dispute the couple splits. During a holiday with his daughters in Turkey, Halil decides to stay and to raise his daughters in the islamic tradition. When Sol and her friend Fridrick attempt to kidnap them, they are confronted with powers and rules of a society they hardly know.

Split è un confronto tra Est e Ovest, una storia di amore e vendetta. Sol, una donna islandese, Halil, il marito turco, e le loro due figlie vivono a Reykjavic. Dopo una violenta lite la coppia si divide. Durante una vacanza con le figlie in Turchia, Halil decide di rimanere e di allevare le sue figlie nella tradizione islamica. Quando Sol e il suo amico Fridrick tentano di rapirle, si scontreranno con i poteri e le regole di una società che conoscono appena.

Canan Gerede

Born in New York, living alternately in Istanbul and Paris. Split is her third feature, after Robert’s Movie (1991 Semaine de la critique a Cannes) and B. Love Colder Than Death (Competition a Locarno 95). She also directed documentaries such as Women in Pakistan and was assistant to Yilmaz Güney on Yol (1982).

Nata a New York, vive alternativamente a Parigi e a Istanbul. Split è il suo terzo film dopo Robert’s Movie (1991 Settimana della critica a Cannes), e B. Love Colder Than Death (in competizione a Locarno 95). Ha anche diretto documentari come Women in Pakistan ed è stata assistente di Yilmaz Güney in Yol (1982).
